Children's literature plays a vital role in children's growth and development. It is considered as one of the important ways to develop children's cognitive ability and thinking ability from different levels. In recent years, with various newly created works coming out, children's literature has obtained much attention. However, the translation of children's literature still at preliminary stage. With the development of exchanges between China and other countries,it gradually becomes a need for Chinese children to know about the world.Unfortunately, due to language barriers,Chinese children are not able to get an easy access to foreign literature works.Through reading literature works of other countries, children can broaden their horizons and explore the new world which is unfamiliar to them.So for Chinese children,it becomes quite indispensable for them to have a translated version of children's literature of foreign countries. After studying the features of children's literature and the language differences between Chinese and English, the writer of this report chooses to translate several chapters of an American children's literature. After the process of translation, revision and proofreading, the writer of this report believes that the the target language should be written on the viewpoint of children.Meanwhile, the writer also believes that the target language should keep the closest equivalent to the source language by representing the style of the source language.Under the guidance of this principle, the translator conveys the style in the largest degree by making choices among different words, phrases and sentence structures,so as to achieve the appealingness, readability and instructiveness in children's literature. After the translation practice, the writer brings forward some strategies for translating children's literature. At phonetic level,a translator should consider using end rhyme, onomatopoeia and Chinese special language sign “r” as a non-syllabicsuffix to convey the phonetic effect of the target language. At lexical level,it would be better for a translator to apply some interjections, word reduplication and Chinese four-character words in target language. At syntactic level, repetition of the same structure and sentence segmentation should be noticed by translator and be represented in the target text to achieve the readability of children's literature. Finally,at rhetoric level,a translator should pay much attention to children's imagination development by preserving the similes and personifications in the target language,so as to offer the kid readers an entertaining experience.
