This is a report on the translation of Chapter One & Two of Transformation through Upgrading: Case Studies on Chinese Enterprises,an academic book on business management and industrial economy written by Prof.Mao Yunshi,doctoral supervisor in Business Management Division of the Business School of Sun Yat-Sen University.The book,by taking a lot of excellent companies in mainland China and Taiwan as cases,analyzes their experience in corporate transformation and upgrading.The ultimate purpose of translating thisbook is to convey faithfully the information and content of the ST to target readers,who are business people,students and teachers majored in Business and Management,and related governmental officials in emerging countries.This report starts from the analysis of the linguistic features of academic management works from the level of wording and sentence structure,and then uses the translation methods for informative text proposed by Katharina Reiss to analyze and guide the translation of words and sentences in this academic text,based on the above-mentioned lexical and syntactic features.This report finds that although academic texts are difficult to understand and translate,there are still several ways to improve the TT.First,before embarking on translating,it is necessary for the translator to search and read relevant background information,parallel texts and references,which plays a significant tole in translating academic works.By doing so,the translator can fully digest the meaning of words and sentences and academic implication of the source text.Secondly,establishment of term bank is necessary to ensure accurate translation of terminology and consistency of technical terms in the whole text.
