This report is based on the translation of the judgment from the Supreme Court of the United States released on June 26,2015,of which the title is OBERGEFELL ET AL.v.HODGES,DIRECTOR,OHIO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH,ET AL..This judgment discusses the issues over the right of the homosexual persons to marry, which made the United States the 21 th country in the world to license and recognize same-sex marriage across the whole nation, and also made the judgment itself valuable to be translated. As researches on judgments are mostly done from the perspectives of law and linguistics, and most research achievements are not extended into the field of translation practice, this report aims to combine the research results with the legal translation practice. The whole report consists of four parts: First,it will introduce why the author chooses this judgment as her translation material, the objectives to achieve in the translation practice and the nature and general features of this kind of legal texts;Second, the author talks about how she will complete this translation task, including what kind of roles she will play in the process of translation, what strategies have been taken by other translators to translate similar or same texts, and how to control the quality of the target text.Third, cases will be shown to illustrate the translation problems the author meets and its solutions.Forth, the author is going to conclude the experience she gains from the whole translation practice.
