Illusion Of The Medium

The dissertation focus on the medium of animation art in the context of contemporary art,which the time period is mainly from 1990 to present.Because the contemporary art of this period has been affected by globalization,making similar artistic phenomena arise in different regions of the world,this paper will not make clear regional restrictions.Because the United States has an noticeable discourse hegemony,a lot of art working in the paper will relate to the United States.As a hot topic in Contemporary Art Research,the problem of media is not only involved in the aesthetic experience,art criticism,art appreciation,but also is very important to the understanding of Contemporary Art.This is because in the process of the development of contemporary art,the art of the media gradually diversified,so the media logic has become an important prerequisite for contemporary art discussion.In this context,the exploration of the theory of media has become an urgent task of the current art studies.However,The traditional term of new media art covers the intrinsic difference between different new media,such as video,animation and games so the term is difficult to adapt to the current art writing,which is not conducive to the discussion of the existing works of contemporary art.Therefore,it is necessary to analyze the new media art in the contemporary art,to analyze the inner logic of different art media and to explore the appropriate method of viewing.As a kind of expression medium,the animation gradually moves towards the contemporary art narrative style,forcing the current theoretical research to focus on the combination of animation media and artistic expression in Contemporary Art.Through the collation and induction of contemporary art animation works,analysis of the art of animation as a medium ofexpression,contacting the historical evolution and reality of the development of art media,this paper attempts to reveal the position and function of animation media in artistic expression,so as to reflect the media logic of the development of contemporary art.This paper will regard the media logic of contemporary art as a clue and focus on exploring the animation media in the contemporary art world and take a lot of famous animation artists who active in the art world——such as William Kentridge,Paul Chan,Cao Fei,Narini and so on——as the core of discussion,as well as their art works and contact with their artistic the concept in contemporary art making to rethink medium problems in art.The main body of the thesis consists of four plates,which are“Animation expression of Contemporary Art”,”Animation narrative or artistic conception”,”The media of the concept: the original photography or animation rendering” and ”Utopian intervention”,to analysis Animation as a carrier of artistic expression,discusses the role of animation in artistic expression,analysis of the difference between animation media and traditional films and thinking the unique value of animation media in utopia context under the premise of contemporary art medium logic.In order to successfully achieve this task,the author tries to extract a logic of thinking about the analysis of the problem of media in the creation of animation and the contemporary art in the research ideas and combine the technical analysis of animation art,literature and animation works,cultural interpretation and logical thinking in research methods.From the perspective of art theory,the author will try to explore the analysis way of animation medium in contemporary art and explain the media problem of animation media in Contemporary Art clearly.
