The enthusiasm of foreigners for learning Chinese is on the rise while the learning result is not satisfying over the years,for the fact that a lot of people are learning Chinese,but a few of them can speak it.For most foreigners,their main purpose of learning Chinese is to communicate with others,thus the focus of the speaking part in teaching Chinese as a foreign language is to transform language knowledge into communication skills.In this paper,on the basis of the previous studies,the author introduces the situational teaching approach into the elementary oral Chinese in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.By choosing students with B1,B2 Chinese proficiency from Chongqing University International as the target students,and designing teaching for“ Sleep early in the evening”,the author hopes to provide some feasible suggestions for the course.This paper aims to solve the following problems:(1)what are the advantages of the situational teaching approach for elementary spoken lesson in teaching Chinese as a foreign language?(2)while applying situational teaching approach to elementary spoken Chinese in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,how does the teacher design appropriate situations based on the teaching text?An experiment was given to verify the validity of the teaching design.Analysis of teaching experiment includes three aspects: test results of target students,interviews with auditor teachers and reflection of lecturer.The analysis leads to the following findings:First,in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the application of situational teaching approach to spoken Chinese lesson is more effective,compared with traditional ones;Second,we should take the Chinese language proficiency of the target students,teaching content and students’ daily life into consideration in designing situations.According to the experiment results and the interview analysis,and based on the teaching content,the author concludes that the following principles should be obeyed while teachers are designing situations based on the teaching content:(1)authentic;(2)communicative:(3)interesting:(4)interactive:(5)creative,etc.Hopefully,the teaching design and teaching research above can help students learn to speak "authentic" Chinese,and provide a reference for the application of situational teaching approach to teaching Chinese as a foreign language as well.
