Cross-cultural communication refers to communication between people from dif ferent cultural backgrounds,or people from the same cultural background but in the context of different cultures.Nowadays,more and more Central Asian students come to China to learn Chinese in the wake of the economic development of the countries which along “the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”.And their top choice of place is Xinjiang,for its similar climate,customs and culture with the countries of Central Asia.This thesis that uses current conditions of communication between foreign students and Chinese as a point of departure tries to analyze the characteristics of cross-cultural communication of foreign students from Central Asian countries based on Xinjiang normal university and attribution theory.The interpersonal communication is the important part of foreign students' learning and living,and it impacts their learning and living to a great extent.The research combines qualitative and quantitative method to investigate and analysis the cross-cultural interpersonal communication of central Asian students.The thesis is divided into five parts:First is introduction.It is made up of four sections.Firstly,the background,purpose and significance of the thesis are discussed.Secondly,the researches review.It reviews personal communication studies and correlated studies of foreign students both at home and abroad.Thirdly,the attribution theory is the basic theory of this article,as well as laying the foundation for the following analysis.Fourth,research methods are indicated.Second is the preliminary analysis of interpersonal communication of Central Asian students.In this part,the situation ofsampling samples is illustrated,as well as the features of their communication.Besides,the basic models of interpersonal communication of Central Asian students are summarized.Third,the main problems of interpersonal communication of Central Asian students are analyzed,from communication between foreign students and foreign students,communication between foreign students and foreign students,and communication between foreign students and Chinese.Fourth,the thesis makes a concrete analysis on the situation of interpersonal communication of Central Asian students from internal cause,external cause and comprehensive factors.It indicates that the communication between foreign students and their teachers are mainly in the class,and these students communicate more with their head teacher than with the teachers who taught them.On the one hand,for communication between foreign students and foreign students,the talkers with lingua franca have stranger affiliation motive,which is weaker in contrast.On the other hand,for communication between foreign students and Chinese,the purposefulness of foreign students is obvious,mainly for their Chinese learning.Finally,proposals for characteristics and problems of interpersonal communication of Central Asian students are proposed.One is for foreign students;and another is for Chinese,which include teachers,students and common people.The research shows that the situation of interpersonal communication of CentralAsian students is not optimistic.There are a series of problems: strange communication motivations,unitary communication population,low degree of communication,and so on.According to the research,language disorders,cognitive biases and cultural differences are the main causes of these problems.Therefore,based on all of the results,advices are given for reference.
