The Cambridge Handbook of Language Policy,written by professor Bernard Spolsky,is the first academic monograph on language policy which is constructed totally based on field investigation.Nowadays,as language policy has already become an important subject at home and abroad,the translation and introduction of such kind of works will be of great significance for the research and study of domestic scholars on language policy.So with the recommendation and instruction of my tutor,the translation of this book was conducted based on the Skopos theory,and detailed analysis on the translation methods used during the process of translation was given through specific case studies.This report on translation is constructed with five chapters: the first chapter mainly introduces the background and significance of the translation;the second chapter introduces in details the writer of the Cambridge Handbook of Language Policy,the main content and the characteristics of this book,difficulties during the translation of this book,as well as the translation steps;the third chapter discusses relevant theory and translation methods used during the process of translation;the fourth chapter gives detailed case studies;and the last chapter makes an conclusion.In this report on translation,with the elaboration of relevant theories and specific case studies,certain translation methods were concluded according to different situations during the translation of this academic monograph based on the Skopos theory,which can be used as references and instructions in the future translation of such academic text.
