As Chinese international promotion agency, Confucius Institute is responsible for the dissemination of Chinese language and culture. Since the world’s first Confucius Institute was set up in South Korea, the number of Confucius Institutes around the world doubled each year. However, Confucius Institute, as a new kind of organization, does not have any available mode to draw upon. Nowadays a serious issue has aroused peoples’concern that some of the Confucius Institutes are lack of the ability to survive without the financial support of Confucius Institute Header. The subject of how to achieve sustainable development of Confucius Institutes is meaningful and should be put into urgency agenda.Eight years has passed since Confucius Institute, NTU was set up. After8years’ continuous exploration and summary, it has grown to be one of the world’s most outstanding Confucius Institute with advanced educational concepts, improved curriculum, authoritative teachers and sustainable school-running patterns. Studying the case of Confucius Institute, NTU, summarizing and promoting its successful experience can help improve the ability of survival and development of other ones. By teasing the living environment, language teaching and culture communication programs of Confucius Institute, NTU, analyzing its educational concepts, operation mode, dissemination results, social impact, interactive relationship with bilingual policy, this article aims to sum up and promote its successful experience, put forward some optimization proposals according to the it’s predicaments. most importantly, to provide a reference mode for other Confucius Institutes.This thesis consists of six chapters:Chapter1is introduction. Introduces the reason to choose this topic and Illuminates the research tools as well as its significance. Summarizes current research status of Confucius Institute and Singapore bilingual policy. Points out the insufficient aspects of current research and at last defines the main concepts of this thesis. Chapter2carries out a detailed analysis of Singapore’s language policy, elaborates the living environment of Confucius Institute, NTU and then points out its particularity.Chapter3deep analyzes the Chinese language teaching and culture communication practice of Confucius Institute, NTU with relative theories of foreign language teaching, communication and management.Chapter4analyzes the social impact of Confucius Institute, NTU and its Chinese language teaching and culture communication practice according to related reports about it in recent years.Chapter5sums up and promotes the successful experience of Confucius Institute, NTU, puts forward some optimization proposals based on earlier research.Chapter6is conclusion. Reviews and summarizes the main conclusion, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this research and continuous study direction.
