| This report is based on the Chinese-English translation of The Introduction to the Grand Canal in Liaocheng series report.The report belongs to the informational text,which was written to spread the canal culture in Liaocheng.The existing Grand Canal in Liaocheng is a valuable cultural heritage of China,and it also has profound cultural significance.The translation of such text plays an important role in the exchange and progress of culture.There are four chapters in this report: introduction,process description,case analysis,practice summary.The third chapter—the translation process case analysis is the main part of this report.The translator analyzes and summarizes the translation of words,phrases and sentences translation with the examples in the text.In the translation practice report,the translator analyzes the translation of some Chinese characteristic nouns,translation of four-Chinese-character structures and translation of local food names.For the translation of Chinese words and phrases,the translator has adopted transliteration,literal translation and free translation methods.The translator chooses the concise and appropriate words to make the translation acceptable by westerners.Considering the characteristics of the four-Chinese-character structures,they are concise in structure and rich in connotation.Literal translation,free translation and interpreting translation methods were adopted in this part.For the translation of local food names,the most appropriate translation method is selecting the appropriate target expression according to the cultural connotation.In terms of sentence,the translator uses the linear translation method,the reverse translation method,the division method and the combination method.Through the use of these translation methods,it is easy to understand the translation,more in line with English expression habits.This translation practice has benefited the translator.On the one hand,the translator learned a lot about the Grand Canal’s knowledge;on the other hand,thetranslation process also made the translator aware of her shortcomings in translation.This translation practice has accumulated experience for later translation studies. |
