The Hamlet,one of the classic tragedies which has been popular among the world since it was written by William Shakespeare.it's impossible to count how many times the tragedy has been performed on the stage and the adaptions are also impressive at the same time.In the history of the movies around the globe,it's reported that the number of Hamlet's adaptions is about as much as 32.What's more,the movie directed and starred by Lawrence Oliver was the winner of the 21 st Oscar's Best Picture in1949.Only in2006,there are two movies which are adapted from the Hamlet have put on the screen——the Banquet and the Prince of Himalaya.this thesis mainly discuss the theme of cross-cultural adaptation in the respects of the structure of the story,the characters and the relations between these characters.The paper can be divided into four parts.the first part mainly discusses the shift of the historical vagueness and the reality during the process of the transplant from the Renaissance British classical tragedy to a Chinese scene,to focus on the universal theme of humanity and make preparation for the further discussion.Part two launch the discussion of the structure of the story of the Banquet compared with those of the Hamlet and further more,to discuss the historical and real basis and its cultural implication.The third part mainly focus on the changes of the characters between the Hamlet and the Banquet,put much attention on the overwhelmingly change and partly of the characters between two stories for In-depth analysis of the cultural implication of the adaption.Part four start the cross-cultural talk to discuss the differences of value orientation between the East and the West based on the motif of revenge and anthroposophy.
