A Study Of The Influence Of Chinese Culture On International Students

With the enhancement of the comprehensive national strength,China has been attracting more and more international students studying here.There are many reasons for their studying in China.For example,international students' interests in Chinese culture,the high quality of the education in China,the opportunities of working and developing in China,etc.Among which,Chinese culture is an important factor for international students to study in China.The current studies about international students are mainly on the aspects of intercultural adaption.However,the study of how does the guest country culture influence international students is relatively inadequate.This study is not only helpful for international students' study and future development,but also benefit for better understanding the Western culture and promoting Chinese culture.It also has some significance on the development of China's education for international students and the promotion of international integration.From the perspective of culture,this thesis will make a study of the influence of Chinese culture on international students with the methods of literature analysis,questionnaire,interview and SPSS.Firstly,according to the method of literature analysis,divide Chinese culture into three categories: the material culture,the institutional and custom culture and the spiritual culture.Based on this,a questionnaire is designed.Then I will make questionnaires on the international students of Yanshan University,Beijing Language and Culture University and Tianjin foreign studies university and then choose 15 of them to make an interview.Finally,use SPSS to make a statistical analysis of the questionnaire data.This thesis will make an analysis according to the theories of Hofstede's dimensions of cultural variability,Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck's value orientations,Parsons' Pattern Variables and Hall's Low-and High-context communication.From the analysis of the influence of Chinese culture on international students from the perspective of the above theories,this thesis intends to find out which Chinese cultural factors have a bigger influence on international students,the external and internalcharacteristics of the international student caused by cultural influence,and the reasons for the influence.Based on the analysis,it can find out some methods for international students to improve their intercultural communication competence.After the analysis of the whole sample and the sample of four different kinds of countries,we can get the following findings: first,international students have a direct contact with material culture,which results in a bigger influence on them.The influence of material culture on them mainly depends on the frequency of their contact with it.The awareness of institutional and custom culture and spiritual culture is inherent.It is through long-term accumulation in the formation of people's minds.Therefore,they has little influence on international students.Secondly,by analysis,we can get the external and internal change of the international student caused by cultural influence.Thirdly,the reasons for the influence mainly include the time of their study in China,personal interest,the influence of Chinese friends and the proficiency degree of their Chinese.On the basis of the conclusion,this thesis aims at giving some suggestions for improving international students' intercultural communication competence from a cultural perspective and helps them better adapt to Chinese culture and improve their learning and living skills in China.
