This is a translation practice report based on the source text of Today's Physical Therapist: A Comprehensive Review of 21st-Century Health Care Profession,which describes the translation preparation and translation process in details.The report discusses the translation strategy of the informative text by analyzing the difficulties and typical cases encountered during the course of translation.Through the analysis,the report further explores how translation theories can guide translation practice and what kinds of translation skills are used in term of tackling difficulties in translation.This report takes Skopos theory as the overall theoretical guidance.Since the source text belongs to the informative type,the prior rule of this translation is to endeavor to accurately deliver the information of the source text to the target readers.Moreover,the report takes the differences between Chinese and English modes of thinking into consideration and pursues the readability of the translated text in all efforts.In dealing with the specific issues,the translator deliberately adopts a variety of translation skills according to the different types of the problems,such as addition,omission,and conversion.Finally,the translation exerts to attain the intratextual coherence through repeated modification.By writing the report,the translator aims to deepen the understanding of the translation strategy in relation to informative texts and enhance the ability to solve practical problems in translation by using relevant theories and techniques.In addition,since the profession of physical therapist is relatively undeveloped in China,the translator hopes that the translation of the source text may somehow contribute to the future development of the profession.
