A Report On The Translation Of Under Wildwood (Excerpt)

This is a report on the translation of Under Wildwood: The Wildwood Chronicles,Book Two(excerpts),which is a children’s fantasy novel by Colin Meloy,illustrated by his wife Carson Ellis.As the sequel to Wildwood: The Wildwood Chronicles,Book One,it continues the tale of Prue McKeel and her adventures in the "Impassable Wilderness".According to Halliday’s Register Theory,the register features of the source text should be reproduced in the target text,showing the corresponding field,mode and tenor of the original one,thus achieving register equivalence.During the translation of this novel,the author will pay close attention to the three variables of register and finish the translation of the excerpt of the novel and the completion of the report.Under the guidance of register theory,this report will select examples from the source text and target text,and analyze the translation from the perspectives of field,tenor and mode.This report is divided into four parts.The first part is task description including a brief introduction to the book and its author,a description of the story and the incentives of the translation.The second part is process description including pre-translation preparation,translation schedule and post-translation management.The third part is case study.And the last part is conclusion of the translation report.Through this translation practice,the author hopes that he can enhance his translation skills and competence and if possible,make contribution to the introduction of foreign fantasy novel books.Besides,he aims to summarize various problems occurred during the translation process,and may provide suggestions to future fantasy novel translation.
