A Practice Report On C-E Consecutive Interpreting Under The Guidance Of Register Theory

Antai Shijie is a series of high-quality webcast courses organized by the EMBA program of Shanghai Jiao Tong University since March 2020.Up to now,the courses have gone through 6 Seasons and 28 Issues.The material chosen is an online lecture,Issue 27 of Antai Shijie under the theme of “The rise of a manufacturing powerhouse”.The material selected can be divided into three parts: the opening remark,the lecture,and the Q&A section.The report,under the guidance of register theory,analyzes register misuse from three aspects,namely field inequivalence,tenor inequivalence,and mode inequivalence.By analyzing the register features of the source text and the register misuse in the target text,the author summarizes four types of common register inequivalence,which are lexical inequivalence,grammatical inequivalence,tenor inequivalence,and formal inequivalence,with lexical and grammatical inequivalence pertaining to field inequivalence,and formal inequivalence corresponding to mode inequivalence.In view of the register inequivalence mentioned above,the report tries to figure out possible solutions in formal style and consultative style,so as to make contributions to the study of interpreting from the perspective of register analysis.
