"Shi Shuo Xin Yu" And Buddhism

This thesis mainly studys on the book of Shishuoxinyu from the perspective of Buddhism culture.The first goal of writing is to study on the contents of the Buddhism in the book of Shishuoxinyu how to be affected by Liu Yiqing and his dynasty.The second goal of writing is to study on the social foundation of Buddhism. The third goal of writing is to evaluate and analyze the famous litterateur who were close to Buddhism. The fourth goal of writing is to analyze the phenomenon that monks were similar to the famous litterateur.The fifth goal of writing is to analyze the widespread and important effects on the people in Wei and Jin Dynasty. The sixth goal of writing is to analyze the relation between Shishuoxinyu and Buddhism culture.The concret content may be summarized as follows:First, to study on the contents of the Buddhism in the book of Shishuoxinyu how to be affected by Liu Yiqing and his dynasty. Buddhism throve in Liu Song Dynasty. The people of imperial lineage was harmonious to the monks. The Emperor Wudi of Liu Song had widely association with monks. The Emperor Wendi of Liu Song support Buddhism very much. Liu Yiqing was The Emperor Wudi’s nephew. The Emperor Wendi was also good to him. So Liu Yiqing worshipped Buddhism very much. There are extremely much content on Buddhism in the book of Shishuoxinyu. The rich content was the thing of monks and famous litterateur who were close to Buddhism.In addition,Shishuoxinyu and Liu Xiaobiao’s annotation provided Gaosengzhuan many first-hand material.Second, to study on the social foundation of Buddhism. The emperors in the eastern Jin Dynasty generally believed in Buddhism and respected for the monks.But the emperors’attitude to Buddhism in the earlt days were different from the emperors in the later days. The emperor in the earlt days only respected for the monks.But the emperors in the later days were either scholars that like pure conversations or Buddhist that be at home. The monks in Shishuoxinyu had an obviously characteristic,most of them were han nationality.Some of them came from ntelligentsia or nobility.From Shishuoxinyu we can conclude that the economic income of the monks was considerable. The primary reason is that they got the help of official or private. There was an addition to the functions of the temple in Shishuoxinyu,that was the place of cultural activities.Third, to evaluate and analyze the famous litterateur who were close to Buddhism. The scholars in the Eastern Jin Dynasty generally believed in Buddhism and respected for the monks. From Shishuoxinyu we can see that the privileged families such as the Wang family from Langya, the Xie family from Chenjun, the Wang family from Taiyuan. the Yu family from Yingchuan. the Huan family from Qiaoguo, the Yin family from Chenjun, the He family from Lujiang, theXI family from gaoping. The important person in these families worshipped Buddhism very much. All the families were studied.Fourth, to analyze the phenomenon that monks’actions were similar to the famous litterateur. This is a peculiar phenomenon in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The forms of the expression were in three aspects.First,the atmosphere of pure conversations.Second, the atmosphere of appraise.Third, the atmosphere of unconventionality. Thus it can be seen that monks were so similar to the famous litterateur.Fifth, to analyze the widespread and important effects on the people in Wei and Jin Dynasty. From ShiShuoXinYu We can see clearly that the concret influences may be summarized as follows:First,the intelligent debate of the men in Vimalakirtinirdesa promoted the atmosphere of pure conversations of the scholars in the East Jin Dynasty. Second,the ideology of communicated society and temples in Vimalakirtinirdesa liberated the scholars. Third, the mode of thinking in Vimalakirtinirdesa was "indiscrimination",this made the scholars have a harmony mentality.Sixth, to analyze the relation between Shishuoxinyu and Buddhism Culture. From Shishuoxinyu we can see much Buddhism Vocabulary. They reflected the development of Buddhism culture in China in different aspects. The study was on three aspects:Buddha, doctrine, Buddhist.In general, in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Doctrine of Prajna was similiar to laozi and zhuangzi. The monks’ action were similar to the famous litterateur. So Buddhism throve in the society. It can thus be seen that the book of Shishuoxinyu has been influenced greatly by Buddhism.
