This paper analyzes the tombs of Ming dynasty in Jiangsu area from the following aspects.The types of tombs,the funerary objects,the tomb scale class and some closely linked questions.There are four types of the Ming Dynasty tombs in this area,brick room tombs,masonry tombs,glutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs and tombs in earth shaft pit.Brick room tombs were the major type in this area before Ming moved city to Beijing and still abound after that.Around 1479,Glutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs became popular and displaced the brick room tombs.Functional use is an important basis for distinguish the categories of burial objects.Accordingly,burial objects in this area in Ming dynasty cab be divided into everyday items and funerary wares.There are big differences in various types of tombs buried with kinds.For example,a set of copper tin was commonly found in the brick tombs,dresses were the main burial objects in glutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs.Bamboo and wood burial objects were specific to the glutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs.In terms of scale,the size of the graves affect the facilities in the tombs.The larger the scale,the better the facilities.The scale of the tomb is closely related to the status of the owner.The grave owners of the large three-room tombs and medium-sized double-room tombs are mostly marquis class.Small burials include single-room brick tombs and glutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs.The single-room brick tombs are mainly used by officials with a rank three or four.The owners' status of glutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs are quite complex,from the nobility to the landlord and literati.By comparing with Central China and Anhui,Shanghai area,the tombs of Ming dynasty in Jiangsu area have strong regional characteristics.Mainly shows in the following aspects.Firstly,the brick chambered tombs are distributed around Nanjing and its surrounding areas.The lutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs,from north to south,located in Huaian,Taizhou,Changzhou,Wuxi and Suzhou.Secondly,firmness and antisepsis is one of the main characteristics of the glutinous rice slurry concrete pouring slurry tombs.Thirdly,family graves occupy a large proportion in tombs of Ming dynasty in Jiangsu area.By discussing the arrangements development and changes,we can learn more about tombs of Ming dynasty in this area.
