Guided by Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory,this translation project report translates The History of Xinjiang(Chapters Five and Seven).Written by Guan Shouxin and Wan Xueyu,this book gives a systematic description of the development,histories,cultures and customs in Xinjiang.The report is divided into five parts.Chapter ?mainly introduces the translation project and authors of the book.Chapter ? is the description of the process of translation,including preparation before translation,process of translation and revision after translation.Chapter ? describes the theory of communicative translation.Chapter ? is the case analysis,showing the guiding role of the theory in the process of translation at the lexical level,the syntactic level,the discourse level and the cultural level.It aims to develop the translator's translation ability and produce complete translation.Chapter ? is the conclusion,mainly summarizing the translator's gains and reflections during the translation.The communicative translation is one of the two translation modes proposed by Peter Newmark,aiming to achieve the same effect produced by the translation to the readers of the target language as that produced by the original text to the readers of the source language.(Newmark,1988: 22)Guided by his translation theory,the translation project aims to enable readers have a deeper understanding of the histories,cultures,regions and folk customs of Xinjiang.
