A Report On The C-E Translation Of A History Of Anti-Japanese War In Yunnan(Section1-2 Of Chapter6) From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

As one of the main battlefields of the Anti-Fascist War,China made great sacrifices and contributions for the victory.This glorious history,a precious cultural heritage,is worth remembering forever for us all.As the rear area of the war,Yunnan people provided abundant supplies and labor forces for the war,showing their strong,courageous and tenacious spirits.The source text of the translation project is taken from the section 1-2 of Chapter 6 of A History of Anti-Japanese War in Yunnan,which mainly describes the development of education in Yunnan during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,especially the establishment of the Southwest Associated University,remaining the essence of Chinese culture.To make more people know this history and let the younger generations cherish the hard-won peace and freedom more,the translator chooses this period of history as the source text of her translation task.Communicative translation is a reader-concerned theory,highlighting reading effect instead of the content.For history books,the communicative translation theory is beneficial to approach target readers and increase the readability of the source text.Hence,in order to bring a better reading experience for target readers,the translator adopted Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory to guide the translation.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory,the translator analyzes cases in the source text from the lexical,syntactical and cultural levels.Meanwhile,the translation task is completed with the application of some translation methods,including free translation,transliteration,addition translation,omission translation and so on.It is hoped that this translation report can assist people to inherit the patriotism spirit,the national spirit and the united spirit and offer a reference for those who are engaged in translation of history book.
