A Comparative Study On Cultural Significance Between Chinese And Thai Color Words

Color is closely related to our life,we carefully observe things around,we will find they are colored.Color has two attributes,that is physical properties and cultural attribute,the former simply describe the color of a thing;the later mainly combine with the social life of a nation,religion,customs and habits,thinking,color is endowed with rich cultural connotation.This paper mainly analyze the similarities and differences of Chinese and Thai color words as for culture.Some Chinese and Thai color words due to come from similar legend,express similar cultural connotation,both have the similar factors,but some Chinese and Thai color words have the difference,because the different natural geographical conditions,different degree of absorption of foreign culture,different psychological factors and performance.Color words play an important role in cross-cultural communication,play a “messenger” role in cultural exchanges.Frequent use of color words,if we don't understand the cultural background of Chinese and Thai color words,we will make a joke in the process of communication,even misunderstanding and lead to a failure.Because of the things mentioned above,this paper have a comparative analysis around the eight color “red,black,white,yellow,green,blue,purple,and gray ”,discuss the similarities and differences on five aspects,“ associative meaning,religious culture,political culture,worship and taboo,entertainment culture”.At last,we'll giving some teaching suggestions of color words when teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.
