With the rapid development of global trade, there are more and more bidding activities for large-sized international projects. As a country well-developed in relevant technologies,China is broadly bidding for large hydroelectric projects around the world. However, almost all bidding documents for large international architecture projects are basically drafted in English. Therefore,it is necessary to accurately translate those bidding documents from English into Chinese, which will undoubtedly help Chinese companies to gain more opportunities for winning biddings. The translation task of the author is to translate the English bidding document of Cam Thuy 1 hydroelectric project into Chinese.By reading the translated text,Fujian Hydraulic Machinery Co.,Ltd can prepare their bid in a more efficient way within the prescribed time, which to a greater extent plays an important role in helping more Chinese companies to go out of this country and conduct more business activities around the world. From the perspective of Skopos Theory, the author uses case studies as a method to carefully analyze the translation of Instructions to Bidders and General Requirements in the text of Cam Thuy 1 Hydroelectric Project and defines some translation characteristics and difficulties in bidding documents, such as professional words, long sentences, complicated structures and so on.Based on these characteristics and difficulties, the author puts forward some useful translation strategies for improving bidding document translation, such as extension, conversion, segmentation. At the end of this report, the author also makes some conclusions on the basis of his translation practice from the bidding document translation program.
