Abstract/Summary:
Nowadays, though some scholars attempt to understand the complexity of Lu Yao and his times by re-historicizing and deconstructing, the majority of the oversimplify Lu Yao owing to the lack of a solid and effective point. The gap arises when scholars hold that Lu Yao is influenced by “seventeen-years” literature and new-enlightenment.Based on The Common World of Lu Yao,capturing the main focus – home by analyzing the life of Sun Shaoping after reading and taking social history into consideration, the author attempts to discuss the following question: Why does Sun Shaoping begin with utopian ideal and leave because of dissatisfaction of his present situation, while gaining a greater receptivity but not falling into resentment? In the tendency of modernization,Sun Shaoping leaves his home for individualism in the beginning, and returns to collectivism, living in the house built with Huiying in the end.He seems to return to the “Golden Land” of socialism, while in fact he leaves the once-ideal;he seems to returns to Shuangshui village in his childhood, while he leaves the original hometown.Sun Shaoping’s seemingly-staying journey of returning home not only reveals the contradiction between Lu Yao and the spirit in 1980 s,but also discloses Lu Yao’s pursuing life meaning for youngsters. And this is where Lu Yao’s nostalgia lies and what the answer of the first question is.
