In this translation report,the translator takes the first three chapters of the work At Home in the World written by American writer Tsh Oxenreider as the translation material.In this book,the author chronicles her family’s adventure around the world for nearly nine months and discovers what it truly means to be at home.The author leads readers to experience the diverse cultures and unique lifestyles of different ethnic groups,constantly updating their understandings of lives and the world on the road.The memoir is written exquisitely,and the language is subtle,authentic and lively.In the translation report,the translator mainly discusses the difficulties and translation methods adopted in translation process under the guidance of context theory.According to the characteristics of the travel memoir text,the translator focuses on the conveying of source text in a faithful way,striving to reproduce the original style and achieve the accuracy and legibility of the memoir.This translation practice report is divided into four parts.Chapter one is the translation task description,mainly introducing the author,content and translation materials.Chapter two is a description of the translation task process,including pre-translating preparation,while-translating and post-translating process.Chapter three is the case analysis,which adopts the context theory to analyze the difficulties encountered and the solutions in translation.From the perspective of linguistic context,the translator employs translation techniques such as semantic extension,class conversion,addition,etc.to make the translation conform with the ways of Chinese language expression.From the perspective of situational context,the translator mainly analyzes the translation methods of two aspects: idea and attitude,and theme and occasion.From the perspective of cultural context,the translator discusses the translation methods of custom and culture,historical figure and event,and geographical proper noun.Chapter four is the conclusion,summarizing the translator’s experience of translation practice and further reflecting on how to improve translators’ translation level.
