This paper is a non-literary text of the English-Chinese translation practice report,which is originally selected from Routledge Encyclopedia of Translation Studies.The main content of the book is the conceptual framework of translation disciplines,including drama translation,literature translation,poetry translation,machine translation,corpus and the translation history of major cultural and linguistic groups in the world.The original text pays attention to objective facts and is characterized by academic expressions,clear statements and extensive use of technical terms.Therefore,in the process of translation,understanding the original correctly and expressing appropriately in the translation are particularly important.Parallel text plays an important role in the translation process and also has a great value in ensuring translation quality.Based on the author's translation practice,this paper illustrates the close relationship between the parallel text and the quality of English-Chinese translation by analyzing the two stages of understanding and expressing in the translation process,thus to show the effect of parallel text on improving the quality of translation.The paper also introduces some methods of getting parallel texts,so as to help translators avoid mistranslation or mis-match of ST and TT in language style.This report consists of five chapters: The first chapter is the summary of the task,which mainly introduces the background and significance of the task.The second chapter describes the task process,including the pre-translation preparation,the translation process and the post-translation proof.The third chapter lists the problems and confusions that the author encountered in the translation process.The fourth chapter expounds the process of problem solving,thus demonstrating the use of parallel texts and the role of parallel texts.The fifth chapter are case analysis and it is the key of the report.This chapter shows the influenceof parallel text in guarantee the quality of translation from different aspects.The last chapter is the conclusion,summarizing the author's experience and lessons in the process of translating non-literary texts,and points out the shortcomings of this translation practice.
