| Pei Jingmin Tablet was inscribed in 637 and it is now kept in the Memorial Temple of the Pei Family at Liyuan Town,Wenxi County,Shanxi Province.The present study takes the Tablet as its study object and the study is conducted from three aspects,that is the relations between the people related to the Tablet,the proofreading and annotating of the tablet contents,and the calligraphic art in the Tablet.In the first part,the author sorts through thoroughly the genealogy of Pei Jingmin,the owner of the Tablet and that of Yin Lingming,the calligrapher who inscribed the Tablet.Before exploring the genealogy of Pei Jingmin,the author analyzes the question whether his name “Jingmin”was replaced to avoid the use of “min”,a character contained in Emperor Li Shimin?s name and he also gives an account of Pei Jingmin?s life by referring to the inscription of the Tablet.Then the author makes explores the position of Pei Jingmin in the Pei genealogy.The reason why the genealogy of the Yin family is explored is that the records about the three generations from Yin Lingming to his grandson are quite inaccurate.Therefore the author conducts the research of the Yin family according to relevant historical records and documentary materials excavated in recent years.The author also explores and tests the question whether the Yins are good at calligraphy in real terms.In the second part,the author explores the period when and the reason why Pei Jingmin Pei was inscribed and proofreads and annotates the contents of the inscription.Though the inscription was recorded in many works in the Qing dynasty,the explanation on the recorded inscription in different works varied.The author will find the differences and similarities of the explaining parts and do a study with the historical records and the original inscription as studying bases.Then the author will annotate the inscription with 1,269 Chinese characters included.By referring to historical and documentary materials,the author will find out the source materials recounting the characters and allusions in the inscription.The author hopes that a full understanding of the inscription and the owner of the Tablet can be achieved.In the last part,the author analyzes the calligraphic style of Pei Jingmin Tablet.In the constructing of the Regular Script(in Chinese called “Kai Shu”)of the early Tang dynasty,Yu Shinan,Ouyang Xun and Chu Suiliang played significant roles.Ouyang Xun was the representative of Early Tang Regular Script,Yu Shinan integrated the total principles of the Regular Script and Chu Suiliang absorbed the essence of both Ouyang Xun and Yu Shinan to make the Script more perfect.In this study,the author makes a comparison among Ouyang Xun?s Jiuchenggong Tablet,Yu Shinan?s Confucius Temple?s Tablet and Chu Suiliang?s Yanta Shengjiao Xu in terms of their script?s structure and their technique of writing,then the relationship in originality between Pei Jingmin Pei and the three tablets is explained and the value of Pei Jingmin Tablet in constructing Eary Tang Regular Script is analyzed.After the exploration of Pei Jingmin Tablet,the author finds that Yin Lingming?s script inherits some of Ouyang Xun,Yu shinan and Chu Suiliang?s features but owns his own style.His script style provides an important basis for the study of the development of the Regular Script in the early Tang dynasty. |
