At present, a major force of the interpreters come from university graduates majoring in liberal arts, foreign languages, in particular. But they have to handle interpreting tasks in various scientific and industrial areas given the need. This report was based on an engineering interpreting project undertaken by the reporter. Major difficulties the reporter encountered in interpreting and the solutions that he came up with, under the guidance of relevant interpreting theories and articles, made the backbone of the report. In the process of the project, the reporter was confronted with numerous difficulties and problems. The lack of engineering knowledge presented the biggest barrier to him. The second problem was the frequent arising of emergencies. In addition, the harsh environment on the engineering site also became a huge challenge to the reporter. With these problems in mind, the reporter collected a lot of relevant materials to seek coping strategies. First, he understood that summing up the terminologies that were used in the project would be a great help for him and later interpreters. Second, the Interpretive Theory of Translation put forward by Danica Seleskovitch could serve as a guidance in engineering interpreting. And to be better adapted to the engineering environment, the reporter gave three strategies, including raising safety awareness, being well-equipped, and building up a strong body. All these solutions, introduced on the basis of substantial interpreting practices, could be helpful to later engineering interpreters in the days to come.
