Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co.,Ltd.On-site Technology Interpreting Project Report

At present, the joint ventures between Chinese and foreign enterprises are thriving. In the process of introducing foreign capital, the demand for technical translation is also increasing. During the cooperating process, the quality of translation will have a direct or indirect impact on the project. This report is based on the internship of the author as the interpreter in Beijing Foton Daimler Automobile Company. The author has encountered a series of problems such as the large number of unfamiliar vocabulary appearing in the project process, the background noise of the construction site making it difficult for the interpreter to concentrate, the local accent preventing the interpreter from understanding the source language and the cultural differences. To solve the problems, the author has put forward corresponding strategies. First of all, make adequate preparations before technical interpreting, such as establishing a glossary of terms. Secondly, adopt supplementary measures in on-site interpretation to solve the difficulties such as drawing technical sketches, repeating the source language and using intermediate language. Thirdly, improve the interpreter’s cross-cultural communication skills to better deal with cultural differences.These solutions are all summed up from the author’s practical experience. The paper hopes to provide references for the future engineering and technical interpreters.
