Fossil energy,the main source for world's energy supplements,supports the rapid development of economic society.However,with the using of fossil fuels faster and faster,fewer time for human using.Exploring new sources of energy and renewable resources is really needed,but it faces many challenges.The energy issue is a common topic in today's world.The translator thinks that popularizing the knowledge of energy is a must.The book Thirst for Power: Energy,Water,and Human Survival,a popular science text,mainly talks about the relationship among energy,water and human survival.It offers a new,holistic way of thinking about energy and water,reveals the interdependence of the two resources,identifies the seriousness of the challenges and lays out an optimistic approach with an array of solutions to ensure the continuing sustainability of both.In addition,the forth chapter is mainly talking about the relationship between water and energy in many aspects.In short,reading this book can help us reconsider energy and water and pay great attention to the issues of energy and water.Based on the forth chapter of a popular science text Thirst for Power: Energy,Water,and Human Survival,this translation practice report focuses on how to translate non-finite verb—V-ing form efficiently in this kind of text.As for the translation of the source text,the translator applies four methods to deal with the translation of the V-ing form.During the translation process,the translator is benefited and learn a great deal.In addition,the translator also finds her shortcomings and then makes a summary after finishing this translation task.The translation practice report includes four parts.In the first part,the translator briefly introduces the source and background of the translation task,the meaning of translation and the features of the source text.The second part is the translation process which includes threeaspects: the pre-translating,involving the introduction of parallel materials and translation tools;the in-translating,involving three stages which are talking about the process dealing with the specific text;the after-translating,involving some problems the translator have found in the translation and the proofreading of the text and the solutions to deal with the problems.In the third part,after analyzing some cases,translator classifies and summaries these problems and deals with them by using relevant translation methods.Four methods are included in this report: conversion,amplification,omission and fronting.Besides,conversion and omission have been divided more specifically.The forth part is the summary of this report,five aspects are involved to point the main problems in the practice report,the points the translator need to be aware of,as well as the shortcomings of the translator herself in the translation practice.The translator thinks that translators should not only make clear about the features of text and the relevant strategies,but deal with the translation problems flexibly with their autonomy,and finish the translation task with a professional attitude.
