On Chu Xin's Theory And Criticism Of Ancient Chinese Prose

The stars of Chinese literary criticism are bright starry and reached its heyday in Ming and Qing Dynasties with the emergence of a large number of literary criticism,such as Li Zhi,Jin Shengtan,Qian Qianyi and Wang Fuzhi.However,the contributors to Chinese literary criticism are far more than those,most of them have been temporarily masked for a variety of reasons,and Chu Xin is one of them.Chu Xin's works are once published,it caused no small sensation,In particular,his commentary work "Complete Criticism of Tang and Song's Commentaries Works" caused the opening of the Tang and Song Dynasties prose commentary with a unique perspective of criticism and a new way of comment.And it also formed a systematic theory of ancient prose and literary criticism,and had profound impact on the literary criticism of the Qing Dynasty.In this paper,the author studies Chu Xin's ancient Chinese literature and its ancient literary criticism from four aspects:Chapter one mainly studies the life and writings of Chu Xin.The present studies of Chu Xin is systematic and of himself is ambiguous,So the study for Chu Xin's life and writing will be helpful for readers to have a better understanding of the theories and the characteristics of criticism.Chapter two introduces the Chu Xin's theory of ancient prose which mainly includes his thoughts,emotion and methods of creativity.In ideological aspects,he was guided by Confucianism and actively defended the Confucian way;on the emotional side;he advocated the articles should be the direct expression of authors purposes and feelings.On the method of creativity side,he proposed inheritance and innovation.He learned from Sima Qian,Ban Gu and Scholars of Tang and Song dynasties,to guide the current writing.But different from the connotation of "taking ancient writings as current ones",what Chu Xin pursuited not only how to write articles,but also change the situation of learning ancient writings with the methods of the time to that with ancient ways,and learned the true.Chapter three introduces Chu Xin's ancient literary criticism.Under the guidance of his literary theory,Chu Xin emphasized the "economical" and advocated text goods,character needs to be beneficial to society.At the same time,he stressed the author's emotion,praised Sima Qian "poverty" thought and the truth advocated the natural express of author 's melancholy in.He conversed the function of poetry,ode and expression to prose and make the prose change from the practicability to literariness.Chapter four introduces the status and influence of Chu Xin.This chapter mainly includes three aspects.First of all,the author introduces the inheritance of Chu Xin toTang and Song factions.Secondly,the author gives a brief introduction to the status of Xu Xin,including the status of the imperial examinations,historical value of works and so on.Finally,it is the detailed influence of Chu Xin,the literary style influence on Yao Nai's "Anthology of Classical Prose" and Zeng Guofan's "Hundreds of Miscellaneous Notes",the anthology influence of Shen Deqian's "Eight Texts in the Tang and Song Dynasties" and Emperor Qianlong's"Tang Song Article Alcohol".
