The Role Of Parallel Texts In The Translation Of EST From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence-a Report On The Translation Of Wind Vision: A New Era For Wind Power In The United States

Energy provides the material basis for the survival of mankind and the development of global economy.China's energy structure is dominated by coal,but it leads to serious environmental problems and goes against the concept of sustainable development.In order to solve this problem,China is committed to improving energy efficiency and vigorously developing renewable energy.U.S.Wind power deployment has a long history and its wind technologies are worth learning for China.This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of excerpts from Wind Vision: A New Era for Wind Power in the United States published by the US Department of Energy on March 12,2015 which is undertaken under the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory and with the aid of parallel texts.The Wind Vision report estimates the significant and wide-ranging positive effects of continued and increased wind deployment on U.S.Economy,environment and society,and put forward action road-map to realize relative goals for stakeholders.The source text of this translation practice,that is Section 2.5 and Section 2.6.1,mainly introduces the next-generation wind technologies(including blade technology,control technology,drive train technology,tower technology and offshore wind technology),which offers great material for China to learn.Therefore,this translation practice is intended to provide valuable reference materials for relevant stakeholders.During the translation process,under the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory,the translator has searched some parallel texts to acquire professional knowledge,learn terminology,refer to parallel expressions and imitate writing style,so as to make the translation contain all information of the source text and conforms to rules and codes of target language speakers,and finally achieve the same response and reaction between readers of two different languages.This report is made up of four parts: the first part gives a brief introduction of the background and significance of the translation task;the second part details the translation process,including the preparation before translation,the choosing of translation theories and translation schedule;the third part is cases studies,which analyzed the translation cases under the guidance of parallel texts from four aspects,namely,acquiring professional knowledge,learning terminology,referring to parallel expressions and imitating writing style;the fourth part is the conclusion part,which summarizes the experiences and enlightenment drawn from translation practice and presents problems to be solved.
