A Research On The Adverbs In Revealing Original State Of Officialdom

Revealing Original State of Officialdom(hereinafter referred to as Officialdom)is one of the four condemning novels in the late Qing Dynasty,which mainly describes the corruption of officialdom and reveals the bureaucratic dark rule.In a sense,it has a very high artistic value.At the same time,this novel also provides a rich material for the study of Chinese language,and it is an important reference corpus for the study of modern Chinese.The adverbs in Officialdom are not only diverse but also high frequency of occurrence.And the novel is about the daily life of the officials in colloquial style,which provides a more realistic and reliable corpus for the research of the present study.Therefore,the credibility of the research results is enhanced and the value of this research is increased.This thesis is to carry out the comprehensive description of the adverbs in Officialdom,including a case study and their common induction.By the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the adverbs,this thesis aims to investigate the development of the adverbs in Modern Chinese adverb system.This novel is rich in dialect.Therefore,the thesis also selects some dialects for discussion.This thesis is composed of three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.First of all,introduction summarizes the research status of Chinese adverbs since the1980 s and points out the findings and their limitations;Secondly,it briefly introduces the characteristics of language use and the value of corpus of Officialdom,and puts forward the research significance and research methods;Finally,some problems in this thesis are solved,such as Officialdom language period attribution,adverbs subclass,meaning item,version selection and corpus source.The first part of text is about the classification of adverbs.Specifically speaking,after listing the different classification views on the adverbs,this thesis combines with the usage of adverbs in Officialdom and puts forward the working classification criteria.The adverbs are divided into six categories: degree adverbs,time adverbs,scope adverbs,manner adverbs,negative adverbs and modal adverbs.The second chapter contrasts between Adverbs in Officialdom and Modern Chinese Adverbs.In contrast to the modern Chinese adverb system,this thesis finds that most adverbs are still used in modern Chinese,while some adverbs that have changed,are mainly in the use of frequency(generally reduced),applicable scope(generally narrowed)and writing and so on.In addition,there are some adverbs in the modern Chinese common language and dialect that are no longer used.Therefore,this thesis claims that those adverbs have disappeared.The third chapter is about an example analysis of Dialect adverbs in Officialdom.This thesis selects some dialect adverbs,explores its(their)source,analyzes their development and their change in syntax,semantics and scope of use.Conclusion summarizes the full text and summarizes the characteristics of the adverbs in Officialdom.
