Terminology Management In Collaborative Translation

In recent years,the society puts more attention on the quality and timeliness of a translation project,which is evidenced by a number of factors including the progress of the era,science and technology development,market demands,the integration of different industries.As a result,the traditional work mode in which an individual translator works alone doing a translation project no longer exists.The foresaid traditional work mode is being gradually replaced by the collaborative work mode that is supported by computer aided translation technology.A new and widely used approach is then set up for the translation industry.Although the new collaborative approach has some advantages,terminology management is still a harsh fact that everyone needs to face.Since a large number of translators may work in a collaborative project,the accuracy and consistency of terminology can be difficult to achieve and if terms are not carefully handled,it may prove to be a hindrance for the implementation of a translation project.By discussing two cases that the author is fully involved in,Ask Magazine project and Australia project,the report aims at demonstrating the role terminology management plays in improving the quality and efficiency of a translation project.In addition,through the analysis and comparison of two terminology management solutions,the report seeks to summarize a much more effective and workable terminology management solution,an approach for choosing effective terminology management solution,and the responsibilities of a term manager and capabilities that a term manager should obtain.Moreover,the author discusses the possibility of the development of term bases into term knowledge bases,and provides suggestions on the training of terminology experts.
