Terminology Management Strategies In Collaborative Translation

As the need for language services increases,translation work is enriched with new characteristics.Nowadays,collaborative translation has become more common in translation projects.However,in collaborative translation,term inconsistency can cause severe problems.Thus,it is important for project managers to properly manage terms,and they must be aware of the importance of doing so.With the development of technology,term base software has become the main tool for term management.In large-scale translation projects,using term bases guarantees that the projects are completed with high quality.In practice,however,there are a lot more small-scale translation projects,and the turnaround time is always very limited.For these projects,it is better to use traditional method to manage terms.Through comparison and analysis,this thesis focuses on the terminology management that fits the need of small-scale projects.This thesis introduces the basic facts of collaborative translation and the importance of managing terminology for a translation team.It also discusses the function of terms and term bases in collaborative translation.Based on three translation projects that the author participated in,it discusses three different strategies for term management in different projects.Then it draws a conclusion and summarizes terminology management method that is fit for small teams.
