Since the past to the present,the interpretation for 77 names of Thailand’s province are ambiguous at all time,either by Chinese or Thai people that are same or similar but sometimes are quite different,as this problem affected to communication in cultural aspects,tourism and business and even teaching Chinese language both in China and Thailand.The scope of this study focuses on the interpretation for the names of Thailand’s province derived from history in foundation of each Thailand’s province and another name of Thailand’s province.The principles in interpretation for specific names of place are provided in term of the names of Thailand’s province for this study.Comparative analysis and Literature research method are used to analyse in this study.The interpretation of 77 names of province in Thailand are frequently used 4 types for translated:interpretation based on onomatopoeia from Thai accents,interpretation based on meanings,mixed interpretation between onomatopoeia and meaning,and interpretation based on popularity.Hence,the interpretation based onomatopoeia from Thai accents are frequently used in interpretation for the names of Thailand’s province from Thai to Chinese.Moreover,the interpretation between Thai and Chinese people is different attitudes as the different names of Thailand’s province in understanding between Thai and Chinese people can be indicated into 2 types:different word-spelling but same or similar pronunciation,and extreme different word-spelling and pronunciation.The firs reason is the name of provinces that were translated by Chinese people used Teochew dialect first and after that used Madarin.The second reason is the name of provinces that were translated by Thai people,besides interpretation based on onomatopoeia from Thai accents,they also used interpretation based on meanings,mixed interpretation between onomatopoeia and meaning,and interpretation based on popularity.The results of this reseach of interpretation for 77 names of Thailand’s province is indicated and has unanimously concluded that benefited in teaching Chinese language for Thai people,specifically in re-edition of Thai-Chinese dictionaries,demonstrations and textbooks.Moreover,these results can be applied for improving some textbooks in history,linguistic,tourism,and cultural study.
