Project Report On The Consecutive Interpreting For The China-ASEAN Seminar On Event Planning And Marketing 2016

On June 14th,2016,the Seminar on ASEAN Convention&Exhibition Affairs 2016 opened in Nanning,Gungxi,joined by 27 students from 10 ASEAN countries.The students would spend two weeks in getting a profound and holistic study about relevant policies concerning China and ASEAN countries such as China-ASEAN trade and business relations so as to better adapt to the environment.On June 14th,the author was honored to serve as a consecutive interpreter for the China-ASEAN Seminar on Event Planning and Marketing 2016.This report,as an analysis and conclusion,involves five parts,task description,pre-interpretation preparation,case analysis,assessment and general conclusion.Chapter 1 is task description.In this chapter,the author mainly presents the background information,the theme of the conference,and the interpreting task.Chapter 2 is about pre-interpretation preparation,both direct and indirect ones.Indirect ones can be described as language proficiency,encyclopedia knowledge,interpreting skills as well as professional ethics,while direct preparation is comprised of preparation on thematic knowledge,on terminology,on the translation of PPT,on getting familiar with the speaker,and on on-the-spot checking.Chapter 3 is the core of the report,on which the author gives a deep analysis from three perspectives:language processing,the role of the interpreter and the mental quality of the interpreter.In this regard,the author will have a better knowledge about how to become a qualified interpreter.There are two parts in chapter 4,self-evaluation,feedback from the client and participants.The last part is a general conclusion.Through analysis and exposition,the author got to know more about interpretation,and about the importance and practicability of Seleskovitch’s Interpretive Theory of Translation and Daniel Gile’s Efforts Model.This report aims to help the author know more about being an interpreter so as to work harder on it,and provide some insight for fellow interpreters in doing conference interpreting.
