Preparation Before Translation And Its Effectiveness Evaluation

Interpreting is a difficult translating activity, which requires the interpreter to transfer the source language into target language in a very short time. The interpreter should expertise in a very professional knowledge and should obtain some necessary interpreting skills. But the interpreter is impossible to know all about the interpreting activities, so only to fully prepare the interpreting activity can the interpreter gain a high quality interpretation and have a good control over the activity. The preparation may include the site visits, communication with the speakers and listeners, the preparation about the parallel corpus, terminology and so on.This thesis is based on the interpreting activity in Shandong Provincial Museum, guided by the relevant researches about preparation before interpreting. And also, the author read a lot of books and thesis about the interpreting theories, skills, strategies and the interpreting criteria. This thesis aims to talk about the relevance between advanced preparation and escort interpreting. I hope that through this interpreting activity, I can have a more profound comprehension about the characteristics, strategies and importance of advanced preparation.In this thesis, the author selected some typical cases in this interpreting activity, through the analysis of the cases of interpreting omission, misinterpretation, forgetting and improper interpretation, and the cases of with the advanced preparation can the interpreting activity successfully operate, the author proved that all these aspects have a relevance with the advanced preparation, and evaluated the importance of advanced preparation to interpreting quality, thus to have a more profound comprehension about the advanced preparation in later interpreting activities. Learning from the pros and cons during this practice, the author hope to improve the quality of interpretation in the future interpreting activities.
