A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Certification For The Nordic Eco-Labelled Cosmetic Product

This paper is a Chinese translation report ofa technical eco-label certification,and the source text isCertification for theNordic Eco-Labelled Cosmetic Product,which is a task entrusted by L'oréalCosmetics(Hangzhou)Company Limited.In this report,the issues,pre-translation analysis and preparation,the E-C eco-label certification translation of long sentences and passive voice,some problems in translation and corresponding solutions,are discussed.Thisreport consists of four parts — descriptionof the translation task,pre-translation preparations,translation skills applied in eco-label certification text,and evaluation of the task.To begin with,the background and requirements of the translation task,and the purpose and significance of the translation task have been introduced,including source of task,introduction of entrusting party,specific requirements for the target text and signing of the contract agreement.Thensome preparations are made by the translator to fulfill the task,including analysis of the content and language features of the source text,searching for chemistry andmedical terminology,and relevant parallel text collecting throughthe Internet and library.Furthermore,Mr.Liu Zhongde's translation standard — “faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness”,which emphasizes faithfulness to the source texts of EST(English for Science and Technology)and conformity to the expression,are discussed.By applying Mr.Liu Zhongde's translation standard,the eco-label certification translation thereby ensures the faithfulness to the source text information and smoothness in terms of expressiveness in target language in the process of translation.This report shows that literal translation,restructuring and splitting can be used in the eco-label certification translation of long sentences so as to make the translation well-arranged and easy to understand.As for the translation of passive voice,literal translation and conversion of passive voice into active voice can be adopted to make the target version complete,coherent,and conform to the target language expressions.In the end,the translation task is evaluated by examining the client's feedback,the translator's self-assessment,and suggestions for the further studies thereafter are also mentioned.This part includes the evaluation of translation quality,whether or not the translator has achieved the expected goal of the translation,and the regret of inadequate application of CAT(Computer Aided Translation)in the translation process.Above all,the translator successfully completed the translation task,and the target version is accepted and adopted by the client.It is hoped that this report can serve as a reference for eco-label certification translation.
