A Report On Interpreting For Israel Skincare Promoting Group

Abstract/Summary:
With the continuous acceleration of globalization,an increasing number of foreign countries have invested in China.Meanwhile,Chines enterprises have entering into the international market.Cooperation between China and the foreign parties become more frequent,and multinational promotion projects have gradually gained growth.This report is based on the author’s interpreting practice for skincare products promotion project managed by a Sino-Israel joint venture,in which the problems I encountered in the process of the interpreting practice are analyzed and studied.There are two types of problems encountered during the interpreting: the problems due to different thinking patterns between different language users and the problems in interpreting technical terms.In the light of the Conversational Implicature Theory by Grice,by means of comparison and analysis,it is intended to find out some effective solutions to problems I encountered in my interpreting project.The report falls into five chapters.The first chapter gives a description of the project,including background,requirements of the employer,purpose of the project.The second chapter is the process of the project,including the preparation of the project,such as skincare terms,promotion sentences and psychological preparation.The third chapter is the introduction of Grice’s Conversational Implicature Theory.The fourth chapter,the main part of the project,has two sections.The first section classifies and illustrates the problems the author encountered in the project.In the second section,12 cases were analyzed,and then the corresponding solutions are put forward.The last chapter deals with the author’s reflections on this interpreting project and suggestions for other interpreters to refer to.On the basis of analysis and discussion of the problems,it can be safely concluded as follows: firstly,Grice’s Conversational Implicature Theory can provide guidance to this practice,it requires that listeners and speakers should abide by some basic principles in order to guarantee the smoothness of conversation,which means the interpreter should not only master the theories but also apply them flexibly;Secondly,promotion interpretation focuses on customer-oriented cases,interpreters should choose the appropriate promotion words to meet customers’ needs,improve the customer’s interest so as to promote success;thirdly,techniques are not absolute,they should be employed flexibly;finally,interpreters should make up for their own deficiencies,continue to improve their professional qualifications,equip themselves with professional and non-professional knowledge.It is sincerely hoped that the report can provide some valuable reference for interpreters of similar texts.It is also expected that more academic attention to the research of promotion interpreting could be paid.
