This translation practice report is based on a popular science reading about foreign wine,and it recorded the translation process of the second,third and fifth chapter of the wine guide book "Wine For Dummies" wrote by Ed McCarthy,a certified wine educator,and Mary Ewing-Mulligan,Master of wine.This report is consisted of five major parts: Introduction,Material analysis,Translation process,Case analysis and Summary: by analyzing context and corpus of the original text,it turns out to be one of the science readings,which meets the technical English translation practice standards;emphases,difficulty,entry point and joint point of this translation practice are described in detail at the rear section of this paper.In order to explore the English-Chinese translation methods applicable to the popular science reading,this report utilizes two translation theories: Peter Newmark’s textual functional theory and Eugene A.Nida’s functional equivalence theory to describe and summarize the translation process.The source text is determined as informative text base on the text function theory,so as to determine the language style of the translation;In the process of translation practice,in order to reproduce equivalence in word and sentence,literature effect,style and semantic connotation of the original text in the translated text,methods such as sentence splitting and integration are used according to functional equivalence theory.
