| This report is about the practical experience of translating the source text Chasing the Sun(Chapter 1 to 6)written by R·M·Ballantyne from English to Chinese.By the ways of reviewing the translation procedures and analyzing different difficulties that the translator have encountered during the translation process,the translator makes an effort to discuss the appropriate translation methods and strategies applied to the children literature translation.In the meantime,it is the translator’s first attempt on the children literature translation that makes the translator have a general understanding of children literature,widen the scope of knowledge and improve her writing and translation proficiency to some extent.As a work of children literature,a large amount of imaginary description and easily understandable conversation is one of the characteristics of the fiction.In order to pursue dynamic equivalence,represent the characteristics of the original text,the translator follows the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence,prudently chooses words with flexible use of existing translation methods and techniques,and revises the translation text to meet the needs of the target readers.This report mainly includes four parts,the task description,the procedure description,the case analysis and the conclusion.The task description briefly introduces the background of this task and the writer of fiction.The procedure description includes the preparation for the translation,the procedure of the translation,the revision and evaluation.The case analysis is the essence of this report,introducing the crucial translation theory of Functional Equivalence and analyzing some translation methods that are used in the translation process,including literal translation and free translation,amplification,omission and so on.In the last part,the translator makes a short summary of the translation experience and shares implications gained from the practice. |
