A Report On The Simulated Consecutive Interpretation Of The 2016 International Mayor’s Forum On Tourism(Excerpt)

The report,taking the simulated conference interpretation for an excerpt of 2016 International Mayor’s Forum as content,presents in detail the interpretation process and makes a summary and reflections on the challenges met during the task.Research on tourism-themed interpretation task bears special significance against a context of the prosperous momentum of world tourism especially with the initiation of the Belt and Road.The interpretation process consists of task-oriented preparation,interpreting process and post-task self-assessment in terms of interpretation quality and performance.The challenges fall into four aspects: accents and incompetence of non-native English speakers,cultural and background knowledge,obscurity and vague senses,and the mode of relay interpreting.Tactics for tackling these challenges are provided through both positive and negative case analysis.Interpretation is a complex process involving multiple elements where interpreter’s subjectivity is manifested.Multiple roles that interpreter plays in dialogue is another manifestation of interpreter’s subjectivity.The author in conclusion highlights the exertion of interpreter’s subjective initiative.
