| With the rapid development of science, technology, and economy, people’s consumption level is escalating, and as car has become one of the most important vehicles in this modern society, there are more and more people having ability to buy luxury cars. Now in China, the per capita occupancy of cars has been rising year by year, and the car has become a symbol to represent people’s identity. This practice report is a simulating consecutive interpretation based on the interpretation of Mercedes Benz Press Conference at 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The interpreter’s subjectivity is applied as guiding theory throughout the whole interpreting process.Interpreter’s subjectivity reminds and helps interpreter to exert subjectivity and creativity to flexibly deal with all kinds of problems during interpretation. This research aims to solve these problems in the interpretation practice under the guidance of interpreter’s subjectivity, such as interpretation of professional terms, interpretation of metaphorical sentences,misunderstanding,and/or missing information, and then to sum up some corresponding and feasible translation strategies by analyzing the examples, including amplification, ellipsis, free translation, literal translation and zero translation. The following conclusions are drawn in this practice report: First, for the interpretation of cars professional terms, interpreter can choose ellipsis or zero translation according to different situations except the direct translation.Second, for the interpretation of metaphorical sentences, interpreter can pick up literal or free translation depending on her understanding.Third, for the missing information or misunderstanding in the urgent situations, interpreter has to “guess” the meaning based on the context. It should avoid to make up interpretation groundlessly, but feasibly creating an ambiguous interpretation. At last, the interpreter hopes that this interpreting practice report can highlight the guidance of interpreter’s subjectivity to interpreter, and provide some references for future interpretation of product press conferences. |
