With the increasingly close contacts between China and Kenya,Chinese language has become an important bridge between the two countries.Chinese teaching has entered a period of rapid development in Kenya.Understanding the motivations of students who are studying Chinese now in Kenya helps to promote Chinese teaching in Kenya.Taking the Confucius Institute at Nairobi University in Nairobi as an example, based on the previous researches and the local reality, through the investigation of the students in the Confucius Institute, summed up that the students has strong motivation of learning Chinese, the main motivation type is the instrumental motives. And the other relevant factors in the dynamic process of the motives are also investigated, the motivation of the students who are learning Chinese has a more comprehensive understanding. At the same time,according to the conclusion of the investigation, I put forward the strategies of stimulating the students' motivation of Chinese learning, put forward the feasible suggestions for promoting the teaching quality of the Confucius Institute at Nairobi University, and also provides reference for the Chinese teaching activities in Kenya.
