This paper studies the translation activities in Shanghai Isolated-island Period during the Second World War from the perspective of multiple patrons.By using the method of descriptive study,the thesis looks into the translation activities in publishers and modern drama troupes to discover the working mechanisms of multiple patrons.From this study,we can find that translation activities are influenced by multiple patrons who can be divided into two groups: direct patrons and indirect patrons.There are three rules in the multiple patron working mechanisms: weaker patrons obey/oppose the stronger ones;patrons at the same level support each other;weaker patrons take the lead in translation activities.This study aims to refine the concept of patron,deepen the understanding of the nature of translation.This paper discussing the multiple patrons in translation activities during Shanghai Isolated-island Period consists five parts.Part One is the introduction of translation activities during this period and the concept of patron in translation studies.Part Two is the literature review of the current study,including translation in Shanghai Isolated-island Period,the definition of patron and discusses about multiple patron.Part Three focuses on the reasons of translation blooming during this special period and introductions of five major patrons in this period.Part Four is case studies.Part Five concludes the phenomenon of multiple patrons and its working mechanism,refining the concept of patron,the future development on the subject and the shortcomings of this paper.
