In the era of 3G and 4G,the phone is not only used to call, send messages, but also used to make video calls, take photos, listen to music, and even do online shopping, watching TV,browsing news and so on,satisfying both material and spiritual needs of people at any place at any time.At present, the growing size of cell phones' RAM(random access memory)helps people realize more dreams: a variety of mobile phone applications(apps)appear, which have been innovated to cover every aspect of people's life. For example, people are increasingly relying on the news app to get news and information at home and abroad.Compared to the traditional media, such as the newspaper and broadcast, the mobile application is more convenient, providing the audience instant messages and a better experience. The mobile phone,as the main representative of the New Media, has become an indispensable part of people's lives.FT Chinese is the only Chinese business and financial website under the Financial Times,an English newspaper group, aiming to provide the businessmen and policymakers with authoritative global news, analysis, and comments. It is a good platform,as well as an important window for China and the world to communicate.FT Chinese has more than 2,4million registered users currently, and its mobile products have covered i OS,Android,Windows, and Kindle system. After the emergence of increasing potential customers, news translation of FT Chinese has become a main link and bridge for customers to have a better understanding of status at home and abroad.Paratexts, first put forward by a French literary theorist Gérard Genette, refers to the thresholds around the literary works, such as the title, the preface, the illustration, and the cover and so on.In recent years, paratexts theory has been applied to translation studies by many scholars and it has been expanded to refer the immaterial paratextual elements in translation such as ideology, power relation, reader's horizon of expectations, social and cultural elements. The paper published in the International Translation Seminar on Translation of Paratextual Elements in Barcelona,Spain in June 2010,reflected the most yet advanced achievements in this field. Thus it can be seen that paratexts theory can provide an appropriate perspective for the study of news translation.Under the guidance of the paratexts theory, the author chooses a mobile application named FT Chinese as the research target, taking the bilingual E-C news translation as examples,to explore what kind of translation methods that translators should follow in news translation. After the analysis of examples, the author considers that there are four paratextual elements in the translation of mobile app FT Chinese: the media, reader's expectation and horizon, ideology and sponsor, national interests and national emotion. Those paratextualelements are also the significant ones that influence the news translation.Through analyzing the four paratextual elements, the author points out that faithful to the source texts cannot achieve the communicational goal of news translation, and news translation should follow the corresponding methods: the integration of Chinese characteristic, explanatory translation, selecting translation and rewriting translation. This thesis is of great significance in the sense that it applies the new findings of paratextual elements in translation to the study of news translation, and highlights that the paratextual elements exert great influence on news translating methods mainly in four aspects. This preliminary research will give some suggestions for the further study of news translation method.
