The Peasant Drama of Experiment of Ding County hosted by Hsiung Fu-hsing takes an important part in the long history of modern Chinese drama.Because of the tag of peasant,someone naturally thought that peasant was the dominate factor in the experiment,but the reverse was true.The peasant who should have been regarded as the main factor had always been in the second position,instead,the intellectual was the leader.The identities of peasant and intellectual were different in theater,in the early period were audiences and actors,in the later period were the group of audiences and actors as well as the group of writers and directors.It can be seen that intellectual had been in charge of leadership.But the drama movement was organized under the background of the Popularization of Literature and Art,it was also known as peasant as its name.On the other hand,as the audiences and participants,the peasants also had a certain impact on the experiment.So we can't underestimate the peasants.The experiment was leaded by intellectuals,the fact of the opposition between name and nature was the tangle of standpoints,meanwhile the attitude of government was also important.The main purpose of this thesis is to untangle the complex relationships among these standpoints.This thesis is based on the first-hand historical records,such as Peiping Morning Post Drama Weekly,Peasant and Folk.In this thesis,I analysis the different expression in different period about one thing,in order to restore the process of the experiment and explore the real intention of the drama committeeAccording to the processes and characteristics,the thesis can be divided into two parts.The chapter one is the first part,in this chapter,I make clear the relationship between Drama Department and Drama Committee,then distinguish the concept of Rural Performance and Peasant Drama,in order to certify the intellectual standpoint is the inevitable consequence of Peasant Drama.From the second chapter to the fourth chapter is the second part.According to the characteristics of drama,I explain my viewpoint in the following three aspects:theory,script and performance.In the second chapter,I summarize the Peasant Standpoint which was claimed by Drama Committee,at the same time,I research the intention of Hsiung Fu-hsing and the theory of New Humanism,moreover the strategy of debate.In order to explain the potential Intellectual Standpoint which hidden behind the Peasant Standpoint.In the third chapter,in accordance with different manners such as create,translate and rearrange,I choose three scripts:Cattle,the script which has four versions;The Man Who Married a Dumb Wife,which was translated twice by Chen Zhice;Anniversary,the meaningful rearranged-scripts.In order to prove the effect of multiple forces in writing,especially the Government Standpoint.In the last chapter,explain the intention of abolishing screen-line is not peasant but art,and the new performance form is the continuation of exploration which is started in the period of Drama Department,and it was a result of influence from west.
