This paper is a report based on the translation for a short novella—"The Breathing Method",which is extracted from "Different Seasons" written by Stephen King.The novella is a horrific one which is narrated by the first person,mainly about that an old physician joined a strange club and he told a story to other club members about a pregnant giving birth to a baby.The translation text of the translation Project is a novella.The whole novella describes the emotion and psychological activity of the protagonist,hence,the text type of the source text belongs to expressive text.Based on the text type of the source text,the author took Text Typology and Skopos Theory as guiding theories.The report takes the difficulties in the translation practice as a research object,and analyzes translation strategies and methods at four levels including lexical,syntactical,rhetoric,and culture,and the main translation method used in the report is free translation.Through this translation practice,the author greatly practiced herself,and compare to a parallel text,her translation text improved to some degree.The author sincerely hopes to render translation strategies and methods of same texts to other translators.Besides,the horrific novels of Stephen King are always very popular in China,and many of his works have been adapted into Hollywood famous movies,hence,the translation works of his novels render a good reference to Chinese playwright and helps to promote the development and progress of relevant novels in China.The paper includes five parts,and the first part mainly includes brief introduction to the translation project and its significance.The second part is theory basis,mainly including Text Typology Theory and Skopos theory.The third part includes preparation,difficulties in the translation process and proofreading.The fourth part,also the most important part,is case analysis and relevant resolution.The last part is conclusion including the translator's reflection and unsolved problems.
