This is a translation report.The source text was chosen from Rights for Victims of Crime:Rebalancing Justice(Chapter Eight),which is written by famous crime scholar,Irvin Waller.The translation report gives a brief introduction of source text to readers,analyzes the linguistic features of source text and translates the source text by adopting the relevant translation theories.The translation project aims to provide new minds for those domestic researchers who are absorbed in legislation and law enforcement through introducing the mechanism of protecting victims and some crime prevention policies in America.Chapter one introduces the background,significance and structure of the translation project.Chapter Two introduces source text briefly,including the information of author,content of source text and its linguistic features.According to Katharina Reiss' s text typology,the source text is categorized into informative texts.The translation of such texts should focus on accuracy and readability.Chapter Three has explained the basic theories used in translating.Considering that the source text belongs to informative texts,the project adopts Newmark's “communicative translation” strategy as guidance with the concrete translation practice.Chapter Four has pointed some difficulties of the project and related methods.Chapter five gives a summary about translating experience and some problems should be solved.
