A Research On The Characteristics In The Initial Sandtray Of The Paranoia University Students

Paranoid refers to a kind of individual’s extreme attitude towards things,which stays in the two extreme states instead of achieving the balance.The paranoid university students have difficulty in engaging in academic study because of the problems of adaptation of new environment,interpersonal distress,and issues of intimate relations and so on.This research of the paranoid university students can enhance understanding and behavior prediction as well as the self-development and self-acceptance of this kind of person.The present studies of the paranoid personality focused on the phenomenology,social function,reasoning analysis and so forth of the personality feature.The research by psychoanalytic emphasized the unconscious feature of the personality tendency formation and development process.At the same time,considering the distrust and oversensitivity features of paranoid personality,the research by sandplay therapy has been concerned gradually.Sandplay therapy is one of the forms of art therapy that uses non-verbal expression.With the theory of projective test,the expression of the whole completed sandplay can help the researchers to reduce the interference of the defense mechanisms in one’s consciousness and to discuss something depressed in unconsciousness better.Sandplay as a container,can provide a safe space for the subjects.It suggests that different groups of subjects showed different characteristics of sandplay,such as the theme characteristics,the use of sand toys and other aspects.This research showed the differences and similarities by the presentation of the completed sandplay between paranoid university students and control group students in three following aspects: the presentation of theme,the use of sand toys and the configuration of space.The subjects were freshmen from a university,30 in the experimental group and 23 in the control group.According to the coding and analysis of the subjects’ initial completed sandplay,it’s came to the following conclusions:Firstly,there is a significant difference in the theme of the work of sandplay between experimental group and control group.On the subject of trauma,the experimental group and the control group were significantly different on the empty theme.On the subject of divide,the difference between the experimental group and the control group was statistically significant.Also the difference was significant compare with the control group on the three subjects like threat,sink and attack.The control group didn’t appear the subjects of neglect,injury,sink and attack.Both of the groups didn’t present the subject of incline.On the subject of healing,the experimental group and the control group were different on the energy theme.And the difference was significant compare with the control group on the three subjects of journey,newborn,integration and conversation.The experimental group didn’t appear the subjects of nurture.Besides,experimental group appeared more frequent on the subject of spiritualism than control group,which have no statistically significant difference.Secondly,there is a significant difference in the use of the sand toys between experimental group and control group,specifically,in total quantity.On the category of animal toys and plant toys,the difference between the experimental group and the control group were significant.And the difference was also significant on the category of natural element.As the scene,the experimental group presented more scenes of unreality,blank area than the control group.The sandplay layout of experimental is relatively unbalanced but the differences of terrain shaping are not significant.There is no significant different in the presentation of self-image.But the experimental group presented more one-way relationship in their work and the control group presented more correlation about the relationship of characters.There is no significant difference in the presentation of nature scene.But experimental group used less nature element and plant toys than control group,showing no bias tendency in scene but different in resources.Thirdly,there is statistically significant difference in the presentation of the space between experimental group and control group.The difference is showed in the presentation of the middle area between area 6 and area 9 and so in the presentation of the middle left area2 and bottom left area1,bottom right area 7 and bottom area 8,reflecting the difference is significant in unconsciousness area compare with the consciousness area and the relative lack of mothering power compare with fathering power.As the presentation of the timeline in sandplay work,the experimental group is notsignificantly different form the control group in the development of future but relative lack of resources in the memorize of past experience and present reality.As the presentation of seasons,experimental group is more vaguer than control group,which as a kind of uncertainty to be one of expression features of experimental group.
