| With the expansion of Chinese influence,more and more students learn Chinese in Africa.But the study of African students learning Chinese is very few,but in the process of second language learning.The learning motivation is a very important factor,the author found that students’ learning motivation is different in different students.so I decided on this topic to investigate and research on the motivation of students learning Chinese in Tanzania.Combining relevant academic findings of motivation and second language learning both at home and abroad with personal teaching experience at the Confucius Institute at the University of Dodoma,Tanzania,the writer designed the survey questionnaire,which was intended for 140 local Chinese learners.The writer then conducted detailed research and analysis based on the information collected through the questionnaire.To start with,this paper introduces Chinese teaching activities at the Confucius Institute at the University of Dodoma as well as motivation and second language learning both at home and abroad.Secondly,the writer carried out a comprehensive analysis on the information and data,and gained a broad knowledge of motivation and Chinese learning among Tanzanian Students.Moreover,the writer analyzed their gender,age,educational background,duration of Chinese learning and reached a conclusion that Tanzanian students are highly motivated Chinese learners.In terms of age,the 14-17 age band have higher motivation in learning the Chinese language than other two age bands,whereas the 30-42 age band have higher motivation than other two age bands in terms of learners and learning situation.Despite a difference between males and females,the gender does not have a remarkable influence on their motivation.It is revealed that the second-year students are least motivated Chinese learnersLast but not least,the writer,based on the suggestions offered by those learners and personal experience,presented useful and feasible advice on how to establish goals,improve learning atmosphere,teaching method and boost learners’ confidence to heighten the motivation and Chinese learning among Tanzanian students. |
