The famous contemporary Japanese novelist Natsuhiko Kyogoku created the unique Kyogokudo Series,which has been wide-spread among the readers,and achieving profound success.As a celebrated writer of yokai detective novel,Natsuhiko Kyogoku creatively combined the conflict between diabolism and zen,the contradiction of tesso and prison within the literary narration of detective solution.Tesso no Ori which is the fourth of the Kyogokudo Series centrally embodies the unique characteristics of his novels.The first chapter is based on the text of the novel and focuses on the tesso yokai's figure for exploring the literariness of Tesso no Ori,Beginning with discussing the literary narrative of tesso figure firstly,then tracing the origin of the tesso figure,and at last inquiring abundant connotations of the tesso figure in the context.The second chapter discussed the connection between tesso and zen.This connection not only represented in the Zen Koan which is throughout the detection of the case in the novel,but also closely related the tesso to the padipata,and even more embodied the dialectic of instinct indulging and rational restricting between prison and tesso.The third chapter discussed the characteristics and significances in Natsuhiko Kyogoku's yokai detective novel.In the history of world literature,detective novel has a great tradition.The Japanese detective novel not only is the product of "The Eastward Dissemination of Western Learning",but also has the innovation of Hongaku school and Hengaku school.Considering that this chapter first sketched the history of the detective novel,then analyzed the features of Natsuhiko kyogoku's detctive novel,and at last synthesized the literary fabrication and the reflection on social reality,thus summarized the value to contemporary detective novel and social meaning of Tesso no Ori.Concludingly,that discord and fusion of tesso and zen,causing the attention and thinking of diabolism and zen,that is instructive to the development of contemporary individuals and literature.
